As a responsible global citizen, ETG has made a commitment to play an active role in ensuring a sustainable, low-carbon future with the introduction of Climate Desk, a new desk within ETC Group’s portfolio.
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a panel developed by the World Meteorological Organization and United Nations Environment, the extent of human influence on climate systems is undeniable. It confirms that strong and sustained reductions in emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases can limit climate change. It warns that, unless we make sharp reductions in greenhouse emissions in coming decades, global warming will exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius, after which climate consequences will be even more severe, effecting water cycles and in turn, create changes in the drivers of climatic impacts. Limiting human-induced global warming requires limiting cumulative carbon dioxide emissions, reaching at least net zero.
In response to these shocking facts, ETG's Climate Desk will focus on:
Climate desk will be an active participant in global carbon markets, tasked with developing the necessary tools and partnerships to achieve the above stated aspiring goals.
Sustainability, be it economic, environmental or social, has been at the heart of ETG’s business ethos since inception. Climate Desk is an affirmation of ETG’s passion and deep desire to transcend limitations; while positively impacting all our stakeholders – and in this instance, the biggest stakeholder of all – our environment.
