For the coordination of our cocoa projects and cross-pollination of our sustainability work to other commodities, ETG has partnered with Beyond Beans Foundation. The Foundation is fully dedicated to developing, organizing and implementing projects across commodity supply chains in collaboration with other companies, NGO’s and Government Agencies. The aim will be to boost innovation and deliver maximum benefits for the farming communities and landscapes that form the backbone of ETG’s rapidly expanding supply chains.
ETG is a signatory of the Cocoa and Forest initiative (CFI), and with our dedicated sustainability foundation Beyond Beans, we are committed to protecting and restoring forests, engaging communities, and supporting sustainable production and farmer livelihoods. Below you can find our CFI progress report, the purpose of which is to share the work we have accomplished alongside our farmers in the 2019-20 crop season (October – September).
As a cocoa trader, we implement CFI activities with our farmers on behalf of chocolate makers. To avoid double counting of CFI results, chocolate makers report the CFI results obtained with the farmers that supplied their cocoa. Many chocolate makers that Beyond Beans works with have also joined CFI and our joint efforts are thus mostly reported by them.

Since 2013, the Empowering Farmers Foundation (EFF) has actively engaged with over 100,000 smallholder farmers in Eastern and Southern Africa working in cereals, oil seeds, legumes, pulses, nuts and other value chains. The Foundation aims to stimulate growth in the agricultural sector and foster the development of rural economies by supporting smallholder farmers to move from subsistence farming to farming for business. Through its unique extension model, it works closely with farming communities to provide technical agronomic and agri-business training, while facilitating access to inputs, financial services and markets. In partnership with ETG’s Sustainability Desk and its various business verticals, as well as with external partners, EFF leverages ETG’s sourcing model to improve agricultural productivity and profitability, driving the socio-economic growth of local market economies through skills development and knowledge transfer. Local government authorities and semi-autonomous agencies, and rural extension staff are critical for the implementation of project activities.
